Freqently Asked Questions
  What do we Wear?
Those 50 and over wear purple clothing and a red hat. Our younger sisters, who have yet to turn 50, are affectionately called Pink Hatters, and dress in lavender outfits and pink hats until The Birthday, when their 50th birthday is marked with a "REDuation" ceremony. This is all that is absolutely required in the way of a 'uniform'. Each member is encouraged to display creativity and play dress-up to her heart's content, (but remembering always that we are ladies)What do we do?The short answer is 'nothing'. We feel like we have all been so dutiful and so 'busy' for so long that we deserve a break. Red Hat Society members do not have meetings. The very word gives us chills! We do hold get-togethers, events and host gatherings. But 'meetings?..... Never! We are a play group for women, we're into FUNraising, not fund-raising. The worldwide vision of the Red Hat Society is about building a vast network of like-minded women who are literally creating a new way to enjoy the later stages of life and sharing multitudes of ideas and activities with one another. Each chapter provides a link in the chain that is continually working on ways to help ladies find companionship. What are the Rules? There are no 'rules' or bylaws of chapter organisation. We are a disorganization without rules! Each chapter structures itself according to the wishes and whims of its members, and the women choose 'offices' for themselves as they see fit. The founder of the chapter is referred to as its "Queen Mother". Communication We are largely an online community, forming bonds between Red Hat sisters everywhere via computer. Although it is not necessary to own a computer in order to participate, it sure can be a lot more fun!
