About the Red Hat Society

The Red Hat Society an international 'disorganisation' of women, sprang into existence as a result of one woman giving another a red hat as a birthday gift, along with a copy of a popular poem in which an ageing woman wears a red hat. The gift was given to remind the friend to accept ageing with humour and high spirits.

The phenomenal growth of the Red Hat Society has proven that women over 50 everywhere see the worth of deepening relationships while rediscovering the value of play. The Red Hat Society is currently represented by more than 22,000 chapters in all 50 US states and at least 20 other countries and continues to grow by 500 chapters a week.

Our Inaugural 'meeting' was held on the 4th September at
Iguana Joe's Bar and Restaurant in Gosford.
There were 74 ladies in attendance with 52 of those registering.

This response was due to an article that appeared in the Gosford Express
